New car park opens in Witney for Christmas

The new 250 space long stay Woodford Way Car Park opens on Saturday 22nd December, in time for the last three shopping days before Christmas.

Work started last month on the temporary car park at the former Council Depot off Woodford Way. Completion is earlier than planned as it was not expected to be open until 8 January 2008.

The new Woodford Way car park will replace the Welch Way car park as that will close in the New Year when construction starts on the Marriotts Close Development.

Cllr David Harvey, Cabinet Member for Environment said: ”This is great news for retailers and shoppers the parking facilities in Witney are free and, in addition to well known High Street names, there are many independent shops that offer a unique shopping experience. Unlike many other towns, we're able to offer additional parking when it’s most needed and that should make the town an attractive place for people to do any last minute Christmas shopping.”

The new car park provides 250 additional twelve hour spaces and includes 10 disabled bays. The area is covered by a new CCTV camera that is monitored from the Control Room in the Police Station on Welch Way.
