Deadline approaches for arts grants

Local arts groups and organisations are encouraged to apply for grants from West Oxfordshire District Council to ensure they meet the 15th February deadline. Grants for each group range from £100 to £1,500 and are for arts projects and developments which benefit the local community.

Last year approximately 30 arts groups benefited from this funding, which totalled £10,500. Dramascope, a musical theatre youth group in Witney, received £500. Terry Powell, who runs Dramascope, said, “The
grant from the Council was extremely useful. It helped pay for the staging for our annual show, which involved 51 young people aged between 9 and 18 years, all from Witney and the surrounding areas.”

The money can be used in many ways, for example, towards general costs, publicity, workshops, launching an exhibition or trying something new such as working with professional artists.
Cllr Tony Walker, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism said, “The Council recognises the value of supporting the arts and wants to encourage applications from arts organisations which help provide a rich variety of cultural activity in our district”.

Further details and application forms can be requested online at www.westoxon.gov.uk or by email from
