Yellow Pages recycling winner

One lucky householder from Carterton has won £50 in West Oxfordshire District Council’s August prize draw by recycling her Yellow Pages in one of the eight designated recycling banks.

Mrs Maureen Jackson of Brize Norton Road, Carterton recycled her Yellow Pages at the recycling bank at the car park behind Somerfield in Carterton, and it was randomly selected.

“We heard about the Yellow Pages recycling scheme on the radio when we were coming home from Oxford and as we try and recycle everything it was natural for us to use it. We recycle anything that is recyclable - very little goes in our dustbin. In fact some weeks we do not even bother to put it out for collection.”

Householders still have time to recycle their Yellow Pages and a £50 September prize draw will take place. All residents have to do to be entered in the prize draw is write their name, address and telephone number on the front cover of their Yellow Pages before depositing it in one of the banks.

Cllr David Harvey said, “Yellow Pages cannot be recycled through the normal weekly household recycling collections because of the dye used in its production, and that is why we are encouraging as many people as possible to drop off their old copies at these designated banks. It was a great success when we ran the scheme last year and we hope it will do even better this year.”

All of the old directories will be recycled into items such as newspapers and magazines. Last year, more than 12 tonnes of Yellow Pages - equivalent to the weight of 2 elephants – were collected in West Oxfordshire as a result of the scheme.

Banks, labelled with bright Yellow Pages stickers are at the following locations until 30th September:
Burford (Guildenford)
Carterton (behind Somerfield)
Charlbury (Spendlove Centre)
Chipping Norton (New Street)
Eynsham (Back Lane)
Long Hanborough (Reily Close)
Witney (Woodford Way)
Woodstock (Hensington Road)
