More “house detectives” wanted

Finding more “house detectives” is one aim of a special exhibition being hosted by West Oxfordshire District Council at its Elmfield office in New Yatt Road, Witney on weekdays from now until March 4th

Under the title “Discovering Oxfordshire's Buildings” and free of charge, the colourful display mounted by Oxfordshire Buildings Record is available for viewing from 9am – 5pm from Monday to Thursday and until 4.30pm on Fridays.

Oxfordshire Buildings Record is a voluntary group of enthusiasts and some experts who are carrying out a survey of the County’s built environment – something that has never been done before.

They act as “house detectives” examining the structure and fabric of historic or otherwise interesting local buildings to establish how the buildings and the way they are used may have changed over time.

Their work to date has revealed important information about Oxfordshire’s built environment from the Middle Ages up to the present day.

The exhibition organisers hope to whet the appetite of local people, whether they are interested in the landscape, traditional buildings, local history or even the history of their own houses and encourage them to join in and support the group.

More Information about Oxfordshire Buildings Record is available by logging on to its website www.obr.org.uk or by contacting the group's membership secretary, David Hughes, on 01793 790821 or emailing [email protected]
