David Cameron wins second round of Tory voting
David Cameron and David Davis will enter into 6 weeks of campaigning now that they have fought off the challenge of Liam Fox in the latest round of voting to decide the new Conservative leader today.
The result, announced at 17:30, confirmed the increasing support for Witney MP David Cameron who received 90 votes in this second round of voting by Conservative MPs.
Pre-campaign favourite David Davis finished in second place with 57 votes. Liam Fox was third with 51 votes and will now drop out of the competition.
In the first round of voting David Davis won 62 votes, David Cameron won 56 and Liam Fox won 42 votes.
The witney.net web site confirmed the results of the voting today by posting this news update to the Witney web site within 60 seconds of the result being announced
