Benefit cheat sentenced

West Oxfordshire District Council has successfully prosecuted a Leafield lady for failing to notify a relevant change in her circumstances in order to obtain benefits.

Samantha Cuss (nee Weir), 30 years old, formerly of Hewitts Close, Leafield, pleaded guilty at Bicester Magistrates Court on 26 October 2006 for fraudulently obtaining Housing and Council Tax benefit totalling £3348.12. She was given a twelve month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £100.00 costs. The Council will seek to recover the full amount of benefit which had been fraudulently obtained.

Jon Dearing Head of Revenues at West Oxfordshire District Council said, "Benefit Fraud is a crime against every resident of West Oxfordshire. If you know someone who is committing benefit fraud please contact the Benefit Fraud HOTLINE on 01993 861234 or contact can be made through the council website: www.westoxon.gov.uk. We treat all calls and correspondence in confidence."
