New compost bin offer

Oxfordshire residents have just over a month to buy a discounted compost bin, before a price increase comes in at the start of April.

The cheapest compost bin on offer by the council currently costs £15 and despite steep rising costs in raw materials and fuel this will only increase to £16 on 1st April 2012.

Oxfordshire Waste Partnership (OWP) is continuing its successful partnership with bin manufacturer Straight plc to ensure residents get the best deal on home composting. The “buy one, get one half price” offer will remain, offering extra value to residents with larger gardens or those who team up with a friend or neighbour to buy a bin. In addition a new green colour bin will be available for the first time this Spring.

OWP chairman Cllr Lorraine Lindsay-Gale says: “Composting food and garden waste at home is not only great for the environment and our gardens, it saves us as councils having to deal with so much waste.”

“We have sold over fifty thousand compost bins across the county over the past few years and it’s important we keep supporting people to compost. While the new deal still offers superb value, I’d encourage anyone thinking of getting into composting to buy a bin before the end of March to save that little bit extra!”

Compost bins and accessories can be ordered via www.oxfordshirewaste.gov.uk or by calling 0844 571 4444.
