Robbers strike petrol station near Witney

Police are appealing for witnesses to a robbery at a petrol station near Witney today (18th February).

Four men, all wearing balaclavas, forced their way into the Tesco Express service station, in Oxford Road, Eynsham, Witney, between 5.30am and 6.15am, and forced the four members of staff on duty into a back room where they were tied up.

The offenders then forced open the safe and stole several thousands of pounds before escaping through a rear door.

DS Steve Duffy, from Banbury CID, who is leading the investigation said: "The money taken was all held in either red, green, yellow or blue bags that were secured with plastic ties and we are particularly keen to trace those bags."

"At this stage we are unsure whether the offenders left the scene by car or by motorbike and we are keen to hear from any witnesses who saw any vehicles around this area between 5am and 6.15am."

One member of staff suffered a blow to the head in the raid and was taken to the JR2 as a precaution. His injuries are not believed to be serious.

The offenders were all dressed in dark clothing but three of them carried distinctively large rucksacks.

Anyone with any information about this incident should call DS Duffy via 0845 8 505 505.

Alternatively, if you do not want to speak to police or leave your name you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
