Keep your kids active this summer

From scuba diving to street dance and yoga, a range of activities will be running at West Oxfordshire District Council’s leisure centres for children during the summer holidays.

Discounted entry to some of the leisure centre facilities will also be on offer, with swimming sessions and racquet sports for just £1.

Different activities will be available at Carterton, Chipping Norton, The Windrush in Witney and Bartholomew Sports Centre, Eynsham. A Summer Holiday Activities leaflet can be viewed online via www.westoxon.gov.uk/activities or residents can contact their local leisure centre for more information.

Some of the activities that will be running include:

* The popular Camp Windrush holiday playscheme for 5-11 year olds at The Windrush Leisure Centre, offering roller skating, games, bouncy castle, face painting and much more.
* Swim for £1 for under-16s at Carterton, Chipping Norton and The Windrush leisure centres during selected sessions.
* Play for £1 on racquet sports for all ages, Monday to Friday, at Chipping Norton Leisure Centre and Bartholomew Sports Centre.
* Children’s taster courses in swimming, including water polo, diving and lifeguarding, as well as scuba diving and ‘Get Safe 4 Summer’ to teach young people about the dangers posed by open water and what do in an emergency. Plus trampolining, gymnastics, street dance, yoga, boxercise and Socatots, a soccer play programme for toddlers.

Woodstock outdoor pool is open until 30th August and, with full-size and children’s pools, large grassed area and café, is an ideal venue for warm summer days. Swimming and diving courses for children will also be running at the open-air pool during the holidays.

Cllr Hilary Biles, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Tourism and Health at West Oxfordshire District Council, said: “It is important for children to stay active during the school holidays and the activities that will be running at our leisure facilities offer a great way for young people to burn off some energy, have fun and meet new friends.”
