Car park thefts linked
The Oxford Mail is reporting on a series of thefts in car parks across Oxfordshire. As at least one of these thefts has taken place in Witney we thought it would be a good idea to raise awareness of the thefts on Witney.net
The Oxford Mail report says,
"Police have warned shoppers to be on their guard after releasing details of a gang that is targeting people in car parks across Oxfordshire.
Police are linking at least six thefts from shoppers in Witney, Abingdon, Wantage and Wallingford between Saturday, March 19th, and Friday, October 10th.
Police only released details of the thefts today.
In the majority of thefts, elderly women have been approached in car parks by between one and three people while putting their shopping away.
The thieves have asked for directions and produced a map asking for them to point the way.
While the shopper is distracted they steal purses and wallets then use the victim's bank cards to make cash withdrawals."
