Proposals to remove payphones

Residents have an opportunity to comment on proposals by British Telecom (BT) to remove 32 payphones from various locations in West Oxfordshire.

BT is carrying out a consultation and West Oxfordshire District Council has been asked to comment on the proposals.

The Council would like to hear the views of Town and Parish Councils and residents who live near to any payphone which could potentially be removed. Feedback will help the Council to formulate its response to the proposals. Residents are asked to submit their comments by July 20th 2008.

BT has informed the Council it is considering these proposals because of the extensive coverage of home landline and mobile phone services, and low usage of public payphones in these areas.

Residents can fill out an online comment form on the Council’s website, www.westoxon.gov.uk.

Alternatively, they can send their comments to: BT Payphones Consultation, Rural Development, West Oxfordshire District Council, Woodgreen, Witney, OX28 1NB, or telephone the Council’s Rural Development team on 01993 861483.

Residents are asked to state the location of the payphone they are commenting about, and to give reasons for support or objection to its removal.

A full list of the locations of payphones which could be affected is shown below. Further details are available at www.westoxon.gov.uk
