Arson – Witney

Police are appealing for witnesses after a car was set alight, damaging two other vehicles and spreading to nearby properties in Witney.

The three vehicles were parked outside Woodgreen School, off Woodstock Road, on Saturday (14/4).

A Formula 27 hand-made sports car was set alight just before 3.45am. The fire spread damaging a Ford Fiesta, a Fiat Camper van and a shed.

PC Robert Offord, investigating the incident, said; "The fire spread from the cover of the sports car to a large shed, destroying many personal possessions and two adjoining garages.

"This was a completely reckless and mindless act; the fire was started just five metres away from a major gas installation that supplies the area and if the fire was not tackled as quickly as it was then it could have resulted in a major incident."

Anyone who witnesses the incident or has any information is urged to contact PC Robert Offord via 0845 8 505 505. If you don't want to talk to police and don’t want to give your name, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

You can also give information to the police in person by visiting any police station. To find out the opening times and location of your local station please call 0845 8 505 505
