Warning alert over bogus fire calls

The Oxford Mail is reporting that people are being warned about telephone calls offering to visit their homes to carry out fire and electrical safety checks.

The paper says that at least two householders in the Witney area were contacted by bogus callers last week.

Oxfordshire's chief fire office John Parry said people could check whether anyone claiming to be a fire service employee was genuine by calling 01865 842999.

Anyone who receives suspicious phone calls should call police on 08458 505505.
