Awards available for sports and arts achievers

West Oxfordshire District Council is now giving residents aged 14 and above the chance to be rewarded for their achievements in Sports or the Arts. The deadline for applications is 27 September 2006.

There are two award categories: Achievement Awards and High Achievement Awards. In addition to gaining recognition cash awards are given to help with specific costs for equipment, auditions, training
and competition fees. Applicants must be able to show how the award will help them progress.

Cash awards for Achievement Awards vary from £50 to £250. They are given to those who can demonstrate commitment and dedication in their chosen field from sport to dance, drama, music and art.

For High Achievers the cash awards are from £300 to £1500. These are for those who are already achieving excellence; usually at a national standard.

Cllr Tony Walker, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism said, "Achievements are judged by a high level of commitment and dedication. These awards are a superb means for people to receive help in developing their skills to benefit themselves and the community."
