Christmas Recycling

With so much waste produced over the festive season, West Oxfordshire District Council is reminding residents how they can cut down on their waste by recycling as much as possible.

Extra recycling will be collected from householders in black boxes, open cardboard boxes or clear bags and placed out alongside their recycling wheelie bin. However, for safety reasons, glass bottles and jars should be placed only in black boxes.

Additional food waste will also be collected from kitchen caddies left out alongside food waste bins. To encourage residents to recycle food waste, temporarily free food waste bags are available from Council reception points up until Christmas until stocks runs out.

Residents are reminded they can also now recycle small electrical items such as mobile phones, hair dryers and kettles from their homes by leaving them out in black boxes on recycling week.

Cllr Carol Reynolds, the District Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “We want to make it as easy as possible for people to recycle their waste, especially as there is always so much over Christmas – most items can be recycled from cardboard and plastic gift packaging and wrapping paper, to turkey carcasses and leftover Christmas dinners.”

To find out more, including full details of what can be recycled in West Oxfordshire, see www.westoxon.gov.uk/bins or call 01993 861025.

The website also has details of what can be taken to local Household Waste Recycling Centres and to the recycling banks.
