Local primary school children invited to design a new dish for local hotel

Local primary school children invited to design a new dish for local hotel The Blue Boar Witney is inviting local primary school children to design a new dish for their children’s menu

Over the school holidays, children can fill an hour or two by entering the Witney-based Blue Boar’s DESIGN A DISH COMPETITION. The aim of the competition is to help initiate an early interest in food and to get children aged 12 and under to think about the seasons and health benefits of good eating habits. The winning dish will be put on their Autumn/Winter Children’s menu.

With book tokens and sports equipment vouchers up for grabs, the simple entry form is available from the many schools that surround the Blue Boar or can be downloaded from their website.

The Blue Boar is one of the fast-growing Oakman Inns & Restaurants group of individual, family-friendly restaurants in Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire. The head chef at each of the seven restaurants taking part will select a winner based on criteria that take into account the use of healthy ingredients that are seasonally available, recipes that are both original and creative and most importantly, because the winning recipes will appear on each restaurant’s Autumn/Winter Children’s menu, a recipe that can be easily recreated by their team of top chefs.

Oakman Inns’ Managing Director, Peter Borg-Neal, said: “I am really hoping that we might discover the next Roux, Smyth, Blanc or Hartnett through this competition – or at the very least that we find dozens of kids who just want to cook and learn about how good quality, seasonal and, hopefully, local ingredients all contribute to better eating and make for a happier, healthier life.”

Entries must be received by midnight on August 31st 2013 and can be dropped in or posted to The Blue Boar or at the seven participating Oakman Inns and Restaurants:

Oxfordshire:
The Old Post Office, St Martins Street, Wallingford, OX10 0AA
The Blue Boar, 28 Market Square, Witney, OX28 6BH

Hertfordshire:
The Akeman, 9 Akeman Street, Tring, HP23 6AA
The Kings Arms, 147 High Street, Berkhamsted, HP4 3HL
