Be inspired at free sports challenge event in Witney

Witney’s Windrush Leisure Centre is calling on families, friends and individuals alike to get into action and head on down for a day full of free sports challenges.

A ‘Be Inspired’ open day is being held at the centre, in Witan Way, on Sunday 19 May, 11am-3pm, for all visitors to have a go at fun sporting challenges for FREE, including:

Shoot the most basketball hoops
Swim the fastest length
Beat the goalie

Other activities and challenges will be going on throughout the District Council-owned leisure centre during the day and anyone who takes part will be entered into a draw to be in with chance of winning prizes and special offers on free classes, memberships and parties.

There will also be an opportunity to meet staff, instructors and coaches, who will be on-hand to help put everyone through their paces for the challenges taking place.

The ‘Be Inspired’ day is being organised by Better, the Council’s leisure contractor.

Cllr Richard Langridge, Cabinet Member for Local Economy, Communities and Culture, said: “The Council is committed to giving people in West Oxfordshire more opportunities to take part in sports and help them to lead active, healthy lifestyles.

“This open day gives everyone the chance to have a fun, free day out and find out exactly what’s on offer at our local leisure centres.”

Sean Christie, community sports officer for Better in West Oxfordshire, said: “There is real enthusiasm for sport following the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics and this is the first in a series of ‘Be Inspired’ open days in West Oxfordshire to get involved, challenge themselves and others to try a new sport – perhaps for the first time.

“Most of all, we hope that our visitors are inspired to go on and get involved in sports in some way and we look forward to welcoming everyone to the Windrush on the 19th.”
