Leisure centre serves up free taster session in Cardio Tennis

Budding tennis players looking to get fit can take part in a free taster session of cardio tennis on Friday April 13.

Windrush Leisure Centre, in Witney, is serving up this offer as part of a drive to encourage people to get active for the summer.

Cardio Tennis combines physical workouts with the racquet sport and aims to create a fun way to get fit.

With the emphasis on fitness, people taking part don’t have to be skilled tennis players as the aim is to get participants to have fun, burn calories and hit a few balls.

Nexus Community, which manages leisure facilities for West Oxfordshire District Council, will be rolling out a series of classes from 16 April at centres across the district.

Sean Christie, Community Engagement Officer at Nexus Community, said: “We are constantly looking for ways to engage people to get fit and make it an enjoyable experience.

“Cardio Tennis gets people working their whole body and the social interaction helps increase the fun factor as well as the stress release of whacking tennis balls around.”

The free taster session takes place in the main sports hall at the Windrush Leisure Centre between 1-3pm on Friday 13 April and the Cardio Tennis programme starts from April 16 at five tennis clubs across the district.
