Fritillary Sunday
Fritillary
Sunday is an annual event in Ducklington near Witney and is
a fund raising day for the church when the 10 acre meadow near St
Bartholemew's Church that grows the Snakeshead Fritillary is open.
The 2008 event is due to take place on April 20th from 11.30 to 5.00pm.
Lots to do and see in addition to the fritillaries in the field. Ploughman's lunches (at lunchtime!) and teas in the village hall. from 11:30am.

Details should be confirmed as they are likely to change each
year, but there is usually a plant stall and cream teas. The
Church also refers to the importance of the fritillary in carvings,
a stained glass window and embroidery on the altar cloth and
kneelers. The
Snake's Head Fritillary has geen adopted as the emblem for
Oxfordshire. Oxfordshire is one of the only places where the
Fritillary can be seen in abundance and thrives in damp pastures
like the field near Ducklington Church, and Magdalen Meadow
and Iffley Meadow in Oxford.
Every
year people go to the meadow in Ducklington and raise money
for the church and Ducklington Village Hall. |
