What is going on? Nothing can be posted, not even anything of interest. I think you should have the decency to explain to everyone if not personally by email.
I have never seen anything so ridiculous.
YES Bickering has been going on, and why because of a supposed person being someone else and being threatening.
Now thing have been removed and hole topics being locked.
If you cannot give us a personal explanation, then I will personally arrange to come and see you!!!!
I personally sat that some of the ruckus is your fault for stepping in sooner. As for the political people who post on hear, well they are used to having abuse hurled at them. But we are normal people and if someone takes a bite at us, then by god I will bite back
And so will many others on hear.
I am saving this speech so that it can be passed on to many other members of Witney message board.
Do you realise that we all now talk amongst ourselves by email.
If things get to hot on the message board they should be cooled down by you, yes you Admin!! try emailing the person that is starting it all, cool things down and warn people off.
It is happening all the time now because you let some people get to big for their boots.
You say you run many forums and don't have the time for personal responses.....well make the bloody time, or employ someone to do it. It needs to be run responsibly and monitored ail the time. Not when your having a fag or coffee break, because your busy. There are lots of other sites we can talk on as other members have been posting them to each other.
So I suggest something gets sorted.
I hold your love for Localman the problem over the past few weeks. |

| Another thig..while I'm at it, Why all the time out, over and over again, it is constant, I have been switching off early at night because I keep getting timed out. Its not just me. |

Well said Janet ..there is no input from admin now ..why one wonders.
I will meet with admin..anyone else wanna join me ..if he agrees that is but all is so quiet its thought provoking as to why.
I am not the only one had issues with localman ,I am not the only one who has made their feelings felt to admin about him yet we get no explanation now the decision has been made to lock all but this part of the site ..WHY not?
This person has been not only rude but intimidating,scary and it seems some of us have been virtually stalked via this person.
Not nice.
We considered talking with police after last night episode only to find the info deleted and the forum locked.
Why??

This messageboard is provided free of charge to the people of Witney in the hope that it is a useful resource where local and like minded people can gather to discussion local issues, local news and anything else you see fit (within reason).
There have been a very small number of postings which have annoyed people and everyone is concentrating on these instead of ignoring them and getting on with making a valuable contribution to the messageboard.
There have been in excess of 8000 postings to the messageboard and it is impossible for me to read them all. I do try, but there are periods of time when I cannot - so I sometimes miss whole blocks of postings.
It's now up to all of you out there.....
.... do you want this messageboard?
If you do then I will set up a new blank one and we can all start again. This will also eliminate the server timeout messages that have been appearing (caused in part by the massive number of messages in the messageboard).
If you do all want a Witney forum to continue then I would also be interested to hear your thoughts on "policing".
Is it the job of "Admin" to take an active part in the board, or should "Admin" just sit back and let it be self regulating? |

I don't know how many times I have been asked if I am "thelocalman" and how many times I've said "no"!
Please enlighten me because I am at a complete loss - What exactly would I have to gain by doing whatever it is you are accusing "thelocalman" to have done?
Why would I sabotage my own messageboard?
I suggest you see my previous post and take a deep breath before replying.
I am keen to keep a Witney messageboard going, but it's up to you all now. |

Admin it is for you or employees of you to regulate the board !
people should be reprimanded when a poster gets cocky . the Localman problem should have been stopped as it started. I feel that you should have stepped in sooner.
we are going to get angry ...arn't we.
We are going to have a go back as well!
So it needs to be policed. £7.00 per hour please
Anyway I have said my bit, it needs to continue and to be run correctly be it free or not!
It is not our fault it is the one who started it all, going into private things and being provoking |

Of course we all want the forum to continue, we wouldn't all be so upset if it wasn't something we all enjoyed.
BUT yes there must be some clear guidlines on what is acceptable and LEGAL as Faismac and I would have been well within our rights to approach a solicitor and the police over recent events and as Admin you would have been jointly liable with LM whoever he may be.
Employ moderators,and moderate the board correctly.
Deleting whole threads is not an acceptable admin action. What should have happened is that the offending posts were removed or edited and the poster LM, publicaly warned about his behaviour.
I am all for ignoring irritating posts. I managed to only bite back and get upset by Baz once (no mean feat I can tell you) but when bullying, harrassment and cyber stalking is going on we are NOT going to sit here and say nothing. Whoever LM is, he's a TROLL and trolls should be weeded out and banned and not, as you have done, encouraged, allowed to have the last word and then protected by deleting their missdeeds. Do not expect us to ignore him any more than we'd ignore a mugger at the Buttercross. Lawbreakers and scum are scum whether on their laptops or out on the town.
I'm stunned you even suggested that admins job should be to sit and do nothing. I've been running forums for over 6 years and I've never once seen that attitude!! Chaos would reign and I think you well know it.

Janet, what else would you do put in my situation?
Isn't it better that we all discuss this in one place (such as this thread which you started) than in a thread entitled "Snow".

To be quite honest, a couple of threads recently would have only had a couple of messages remain if I had removed "offending posting". This would have caused the rest of the thread to make no sense whatsoever so I thought the best course of action was to just delete the whole thread. Faismac2 seemed particularly worried about some of the posts so wasn't it best for her that I removed the whole thing?

Well if we are trying to score points, I have been working on internet projects for over 10 years, and I know of plenty of messageboards and blogs that are self-regulating
So in the style of Noel Edmonds, what's it to be.....

Janet, I don't think it's worth moving the "snow" postings to this thread as it won't go with the flow of the rest of this thread. |

This forum has proved what inadequate moderation engenders....
Whilst you stroke your Noelesque cardi and paint stupid symbols on your hands to influence the cosmos I shall say this...
I was not the only one to see that LM had the last word on every thread that was locked last night/this am, and in fact some of his postings seemed to apper after it'd already been previously locked???
It seems you were happy for him to have a right to reply but not us.
And I have asked you more than once, why on earth did he recieve no reprimand when he posted my personal details on open fourum. Again, I see that as encouaging his behaviour, if not actively, the passively.
Check the law on internet harassment and bullying and the publicing of personal and private details. I've seen successful legal challenges and the site admin has usually been liable jointly. Check out Mumsnet vs Gina Ford for a starter!
My answer....Forum, as well you know. But please tell Barry to wind his neck in.

| well i read alot of good comments. and admin i suggest u clear topics finished with, on going should remain, u should also have a helper so regular checks on forum is checked... as u have made clear on numerous occassions that u dont manage to read all and every day. we need that. or where people on here can take necessary action they feel is right. |
